MKG127 is very pleased to present Dazzle Shizzle,
an exhibition of new work by Toronto based artist Katie Bethune-Leamen

For her first exhibition at MKG127, Katie Bethune-Leamen presents a series of works that draw from three disparate points of departure: a collection of images of ghost-costumed and hooded figures, WWI naval patterning known as dazzle camouflage, and the so-called Cape York meteorites taken from Greenland to the USA by 19th-century explorer Robert Peary. These references all come from object-based visual schisms, and the obscuring or complicating of our ability to see; Dazzle Shizzle presents propositions that coalesce as an ontological model for art production.

Katie Bethune-Leamen's recent exhibitions include Ghost Chorus: A Dirge for Dead Slang commissioned for Nuit Blanche, the public sculpture commission Mushroom Studio (Toronto Sculpture Garden), and Goodbye to Romance (Mercer Union). In the past year she has participated in residencies including Why Are Conceptual Artists Painting Again? Because They Think It’s A Good Idea at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Reverse Pedadgogy III, The Model Arts Centre (Sligo, IE), Reverse Pedagogy II, Palazzo Zen (Venice, IT), and I_Wanna_See_You De Overslag (Eindhoven, NL) and YYZ.
